Lenders considering new product for divorced people

In Georgia and around the country, divorces among people age 50 and older have been on the rise. Research from Bowling Green State University identified this trend. Data indicated that the number of people in that age group divorcing doubled between 1990 and 2014. The financial industry has taken notice, and is has been contemplating a financial product that could offer solutions when older homeowners end their marriage.

The effects of divorce on older people

While many may disagree about the overall divorce rate, it is generally accepted that the divorce rate among those over the age of 50 is increasing. This phenomenon is known as gray divorce, and statistics reveal that the divorce rate among those over 50 doubled between 1990 and 2010. Although any divorce may be difficult, doing later in life may be harder for Georgia couples because there is less time to recover financially from such a drastic change.

Options for divorces in Georgia

Many Georgia couples who are considering ending their marriages believe that the process always involves bitter litigation through court. While litigating issues in court may be necessary in some cases, people do have other options.
