Custody dispute continues between Nicole Curtis, child's father

Georgia viewers of the TV show "Rehab Addict" may be aware that star Nicole Curtis had a child, and she has been engaged in series of custody battles ever since with her 1-year-old son's father. The court cases began when the child's father filed a paternity claim. Curtis then asked for child support and expenses from child care and the birth.

The court ruled that the father would be able to have visitation with the child on weekends, but he would also be required to pay child support and some of the costs of the birth. He claimed an income of $3,744 weekly, but Curtis said that he made $20,000 per week. Curtis also filed to seal the court records on the grounds that she was a celebrity and worried about a stalker, but the father said she did not have stalkers. Curtis also alleged that he was not caring for the child adequately.

Curtis then requested a move from Michigan to California, and the court ruled that she had to pay for the man's visits. He then said that she was not keeping to the terms of the custody agreement.

Custody disputes can be emotional and difficult. Both parents generally want what is best for the child, but they may also find it hard to give up valuable time with the child. Parents should make certain that they are not using children to get back at the other parent. Studies have shown that children adjust better when parents can split amicably or at least cooperate in coparenting. How a judge makes a ruling in a custody dispute will depend upon a number of factors including the child's age and preferences.
