Guidelines and restrictions on grandparents' visitation

Getting grandparents' rights instated can be very difficult, but it is possible. One thing to be aware of is that the courts set the guidelines for what is a fair and reasonable visitation schedule. In the state of Georgia, the visitation schedule must include at least 24 hours a month minimum if grandparent visitation is awarded. This may be divided into a weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule depending on the best interests of the child and the schedules for both parties.

When parents are unmarried or no longer raising a child together, it can become necessary to establish a custody plan. Child custody and visitation plans are put into place to protect the well-being of the kids involved and as well as the rights of a child's parents or guardians.
