Create an effective parenting plan

On Behalf of | Feb 5, 2020 | Family Law

When couples get a divorce, one of the things they have to decide is how they will co-parent their children. If the kids will spend time with both of their parents, people usually have to put together a parenting plan. There are a few things people should keep in mind as they create this plan.

In Georgia, many courts award joint custody to parents. This means that people typically need to create a parenting plan that allows them to move the kids between houses. There are many ways parents can divide their children’s time. Some parents might decide they will each have the children for a week at a time. Others may decide to move the kids from house to house every few days. In some situations, parents might have the kids every other month.

If parents move the children between houses, it is a good idea for them to include these transitions in their parenting plan. According to Very Well Family, parents should make sure their transportation schedule works for the whole family. People should generally discuss who will pick up the kids when they go to stay with a different parent. Parents may also want to decide who will drop the children off for different activities. It is a good idea to try a transportation schedule for a few weeks to see how effective it is. If parents realize that part of their plan is not working, they can rework some aspects to make it better.

Sometimes people may want to find a parenting plan that is convenient for everyone. However, it is important to remember that a schedule that works for one parent may not be convenient for the entire family. Parents may want to focus on what is best for the family as a whole when they sit down to create their parenting plan. People can find more information about this subject on our webpage.
